Eligibility requirements for appointment
To be eligible for appointment as a Justice of the Peace in New South Wales, you must:

o be at least 18 years of age;
o be nominated for appointment by a member of the NSW Parliament (Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council);
o be an Australian Citizen;
o be of good character;
o not be an undischarged bankrupt;
o consent to confidential inquiries being made to determine suitability for appointment, including a criminal records check;
o establish an employment and/or a community based need for appointment as a Justice of the Peace; and
o consent to having their full name published on the Justices of the Peace register.
